Parent & Child Arts Classes: Create Art, Move, Sing, & Play!

All About Parent & Child Arts Classes!

Calling Little Artists!  Mommy & Me Art Classes

Express yourself through art, music and movement with local artist, Ms. Laura Lynne!  In this class parent and child will create relaxing process art between artful movement breaks.  Watch a shadow puppet play too!

What is Process Art?

Process art is the opposite of “product art”.  When we do process art there is relaxationpreschool private art class girl doing collage project, exploration, and confidence building by creating something truly your own!  There is no teacher example, no step-by-step instructions and no end product, just your creativity along the way.  It’s almost like being an scientist and an inventor.  The kids keep testing and arranging the materials, then invent an artwork completely unique.  It’s so fun to watch!

I will be arranging a variety of materials so that you and your child can get lost in the creative process.  For example, one project we may do is painting with a variety of brushes: a feather, string, a stick, etc… The paint, paper and brushes will be available for you and your child to create an artwork.  The goal is to explore the art materials, independently problem-solve, and relax without critique or judgement.  After we are done working the children may want to talk about the art they created encouraging their verbal skills.

Sing, Dance/Move & Watch a Short Puppet Play!

Kids under 5 have a lot of energy, right?  We’ll be taking movement breaks often and start the class with one as well.  Before I work on an artwork, even at my age (!!), I need to exercise or stretch.  Creating 2D and 3D art means our bodies are mostly still and focused for a period of time.  Getting our energy out first thing will help.

We’ll sing songs about art and color!  I love to sing and grew up singing for fun with my family.  My mom is a guitar instructor and loves to perform at open mic nights in her area.  Growing up I picked up on a little guitar as well and might just bring it along to a class or two.

At the end of the class I will perform a short shadow puppet play.  My favorite medium is cut paper collage, so I’m really excited to show you a play or nursery rhyme with my handmade paper cut outs at the end of class.
