Color Theory Summer Art Camp – ONLINE
Hello! This class has passed. Check out the 2025 Summer Art Camps here. Â
Learn how to confidently use color in this class on the basics of color theory using tempura paints, drawing and collage in this online summer art camp for kids ages 6-16. Color is my favorite art subject to teach. It’s loaded with fun demos and projects. I’ve been teaching art online since 2021 when I had a virtual artist-in-residency with the DuPage Children’s Museum. Since then, I’ve taught summer art camps, workshops and family art clubs online with my current artist-in-residency at Indian Prairie Schools. Kids and parents love the zoom art lessons and find them highly engaging. We usually take a short movement and snack break part way through the class. Read more about why online art classes for kids work below.
- Who:Â Â Kids ages 6-16
- Dates:Â July 8-12, 2024
- Time: 1pm to 3pm
- Location:Â Online via Zoom
- Cost:Â $100
- Supplies: You will receive a supply list via email after registration. Supplies are not brand specific so you may use what you like or have at home. Please note that not all brands are created the same and might have slightly different results than my examples or other kids in the class. Internet connection and a device to watch the Zoom are needed as well. If you are tech savvy and have a webcam or document camera you can face toward the table as you’re working that’s great, but not required. Â

Why Do Online Zoom Art Classes Work?
We all know Zoom school didn’t work during the pandemic. However, I’ve been teaching 2 hour summer art camps for 3 years now and found that if the lessons are very well planned, meaning taking many hours of planning for each hour of lessons, students find them to be engaging and fun. The art lessons are self-individualizing so they work for a variety of ages from elementary to high school. A few of the tools I use to teach online are pre-made videos so that I can play them again for kids who might want a better understanding. Live demos and photo references are so much easier to see when you have a decent sized screen right in front of your face. If you would like to see an example of a clip of one of my teaching videos, check out this drawing video I made for kids on YouTube.
My lessons are self-individualizing and open ended to make sure kids have ample room for creativity. This also takes the pressure off of having to follow step by step. When we are learning new techniques we may do some follow along work, but the projects are meant to inspire rather than copy.
