After School Art Classes for Kids & Teens

Join Ms. Laura Lynne for a drawing lesson, short art project or art technique for inspiration and artwork of the week introduction, then open studio time where your child can create projects using the supplies available in the studio. Teens and tweens will have individual attention to develop their skills and independent projects.
Kids ages 7-11 will start on Level 1, then pass each level (not necessarily in order) so they can move into independent studio work with access to all the art room supplies. Teens and tweens will have individual attention for their independent projects and will work with me to advance their skills and try different techniques. Class sizes are boutique and limited to 6. Art classes are 4:30pm to 6pm on Thursdays during the school year.
- Open Studio Level 1: Drawing Supplies I: Crayons, markers, colored pencils, paper. Students will learn how to safely sharpen pencils, put caps back on markers, and work with crayons.
- Open Studio Level 2: Collage Supplies I: Scissors, glue stick, liquid glue, paper. Students will learn how much glue to use and how to apply it. They will learn how to safely handle scissors.
- Open Studio Level 3: Watercolors, paper. Students will learn proper brush handling techniques and how to wash their brush. They will also complete a watercolor technique worksheet.
- Open Studio Level 4: Drawing Supplies II: Oil and soft pastels, paper. Students will learn about using and cleaning up after soft and oil pastel drawing.
- Open Studio Level 5: Tempura Paint, paper. Students will learn proper brush handling and painting techniques. They will complete a tempura painting technique page.
- Open Studio Level 6: Fiber Arts I: Sewing needles, awl, yarn, embroidery floss.
- Open Studio Level 7: Air Dry Clay: Clay techniques, tools, storage and clean-up.
- Open Studio Level 8: Collage Supplies II: X-Acto knife, needlepoint scissors. Students will be at least 12 years old and learn how to safely use these supplies.
Classes are boutique size limited to 6 and fill up fast. Pre-registration is highly recommended. Drop-ins are $20 and space permitting. Register each week for the next or buy a month pass. Sorry, no refunds on monthly passes. This monthly registration is for September 2024 only. Forms will be emailed to you upon registration. Students must have forms on file in order to participate in the art class.
*Art classes and summer camps need a minimum of 3 students.

Ms. Laura Lynne is a mixed media artist, mural painter and art teacher living and working in Aurora, IL.
