Custom Watercolor Dog Portrait Paintings
On Saturday, I spent the day painting pet portraits at Parachute Home’s Lincoln Park, Chicago location for their National Dog Day event. It was such a fun event as dog owners brought in their pets for treats and a custom watercolor portrait. Guests signed up in advance so I was able to get a start on some of the paintings in my studio the day before the event. Here are some photos I took during the event.
Here I am posing with the largest dog who came into the store that day with his portrait. His owner said he was found roaming the streets in Chicago (poor thing). Doesn’t he look so happy now though?
Hand Painted Pet Portraits
All the paintings were created by hand drawing the dog on Strathmore 100% cotton, archival watercolor paper first, then adding layers of watercolors. After the watercolor dried I painted in details with acrylic paint pens and gouache. (Gouache is similar to watercolor, but can be opaque as well.)
