Have You Heard of TAB Art Classes for Kids?
This art teaching method builds skills and techniques in many mediums, but allows for maximum creativity for children. Why is maximum creativity crucial in your student’s art class and why is art class important anyway? Read 7 reasons why art education is essential here. TAB stands for Teaching for Artistic Behaviors. Here are the guiding principles:
- What do artists do?
- The child is the artist.
- The classroom is the child’s studio.
How the TAB I Love Messy Art Club After School Classes will Work:
I am offering the “I Love Messy Art Club” TAB after school classes where kids can use the studio as their own. Right now I am lucky to have two rooms in my art studio. One room is my personal art studio and one room is the teaching studio/your child’s art studio. Each week students will learn different skills, art techniques, and/or art styles, starting with the most important skill in my opinion; drawing. After that, we’ll learn more art techniques based on the interests of the class in any order. Here are some of the topics we may learn about:
- Open Studio Level 1: Drawing Supplies I: Crayons, markers, colored pencils, paper. Students will learn how to safely sharpen pencils, put caps back on markers, and work with crayons.
- Open Studio Level 2: Collage Supplies I: Scissors, glue stick, liquid glue, paper. Students will learn how much glue to use and how to apply it. They will learn how to safely handle scissors.
- Open Studio Level 3: Watercolors. Students will learn proper brush handling techniques and how to wash their brush. They will also complete a watercolor technique worksheet.
- Open Studio Level 4: Drawing Supplies II: Oil and soft pastels, paper. Students will learn about using and cleaning up after soft and oil pastel drawing.
- Open Studio Level 5: Tempura Paint, paper. Students will learn brush handling and painting techniques. They will complete a tempura painting technique page.
- Open Studio Level 6: Fiber Arts I: Sewing needles, awl, yarn, embroidery floss.
- Open Studio Level 7: Air Dry Clay: Clay techniques, tools, storage and clean-up.
- Open Studio Level 8: Collage Supplies II: X-Acto knife, needlepoint scissors. Students will be at least 12 years old and learn how to safely use these supplies.
